Pupil Free Week in July

Given that this has been a huge year for students and staff at the College, I have made the decision to keep the Pupil Free Week during the July school holidays.  This will allow everyone a well-deserved break and provide time for staff to prepare well for Semester 2, with some professional development.

Students will finish Term 2 on Friday 3 July and return to school on Monday 27 July 2020.

Please note: Year 11 and 12 ATAR students will be required to attend classes as normal during the Pupil Free Week, from Monday 20 July to Friday 24 July.  Further information will be sent to affected students regarding this.

Again, we want to acknowledge and thank all of our families for the support you have given to the College during the uncertainties that Covid-19 has brought.

~ Mr Gavin Hirschhausen, Principal

UNIFORM ORDERING – NOW ONLINE

We are very pleased to advise that Uniform Shop ordering is now available online through QuickCliq (the same system we use for Canteen ordering).

Families can order uniform and pay online. Uniform Shop staff are able to size students during the school day, if required, and items can be sent home with students.

Uniform orders will be processed within 2 school days of being received.

Please read all of the updated information on the website.

Kindy – Commmunity Helpers

This term in Kindy, we have a learning focus around Community Helpers. Previous to Covid-19, we would invite some of our emergency services to visit Kindy with their vehicle and have a talk with us. With restrictions this term however, we got our thinking caps on and approached some of our parents who care for our community, to make a little video for us instead. 😊

We have watched one video so far from our Theatre Nurse Mum, Sara Grimsley, with others to come. To coincide with National Day of Thanks this weekend, we sent our first chocolate & coffee goodie basket to the Hospital with Sara, which the Kindy families donated, as a little way to say a big Thank You to our community helpers – they are valued and so appreciated.

~ Mrs Quenby Fabian, Kindy Teacher

We received a lovely thank you from another Nurse Mum, Cheryl Britz, to say:

Thank you to the Beautiful Kindy Kiddies for thinking about us at the hospital Theatre!!!! All the Doctors and Nurses love the treats. X

Primary House Captains Shine!

I want to highlight the fact that my Year 6 House Captains are such great leaders – they set up and pack up activities, teach the younger students, encourage and motivate participation. It’s awesome to watch them do this amazing service to the school.

A very BIG pat on the back to Ma T, Isabelle B, Kessie B, Drew R, Samuel K, Hazel L and Maggie C. I am so impressed by them and I know the other Primary Teachers are too.

~ Mrs Kristen Fenby, Primary Sports Coordinator

It’s so wonderful to see our students in the College learning about how they can serve and bless others, fulfilling our Mission Statement “In partnership with parents, Strathalbyn Christian College aims to make known the Lordship of Jesus Christ through excellence in education to equip students for works of service“.

Well done Kindy students and Year 6 House Captains!

Year 8 Lego Coat Racks

Year 8 students constructed amazing Lego Coat Racks in Design and Technology woodwork class.

Students made the rack using a step by step instructions template in order to achieve the intended design.

The Year 8’s learnt skills of measuring, sawing, sanding, filing, drilling, rasping and finishing techniques.

Don’t they look awesome? Well done Year 8’s on a successful trimester.

~ Mr Hayden Scally, DT Teacher

Canteen News

Starting next week, students can order a Ham & Cheese Croissant from Canteen for Recess and warm Pumpkin Soup with a Garlic Knob at lunch time. Orders are still on-line through QuickCliq. Warm and yummy on these cold days.
