Week 8 Term 3

Worship Band

On Friday Mornings, staff gather together for a time of worship at the start of the day. This morning Mr Gibson and the Worship Band led worship for us, which was so wonderful. How blessed we are to have a dedicated team of students who practice together every Thursday lunch time, and lead worship at Assemblies at school, etc.

Next Sunday afternoon, 20 September, the Worship Band and Primary Sing Out Choir will be performing “The Blessing” at Songs of Praise at the Holy Cross Cathedral.

Strath Netball

It’s exciting to have two Primary Netball Teams this year. Many thanks to College Mums Rebecca Roffman and Brooke Root who offered to Coach in 2020, under the direction of Netball Coordinator, Mrs Joanne Lindsay.

Last week the Year 4/5 team won their game and the Year 6 girls played a great game with strong defence. They had a productive 2nd quarter. Everyone is playing so well and have improved so much over the course of the Season. Well done girls!

Community Come & Play Days

Do you have pre-Kindy aged children? Our Come and Play Days will be on next Monday 14 September, and the following Monday 21 September. All most welcome, and you are encouraged to invite friends to come along with you (or to pass this invite on to friends).

Instrumental Music Program Showcase

On Monday afternoon, family & friends enjoyed a relaxed afternoon concert where Instrumental Music Program students showcased what they have been learning this year on their instruments.

The afternoon began with Instrumental Teachers performing Hosanna (Praise Is Rising) together. We then heard from our budding pianists, guitarists, brass & woodwind players, vocalists and drummers, who each confidently got on stage to play in front of a packed audience.

It is exciting – year after year – to hear the progress our students are making on their instruments. Some highlights included a guitar ensemble (organised by Mr Micke) as well as students playing with accompanists for the very first time.

A special thank you to our Instrumental Teachers who prepared & supported their students so well on the afternoon, to Miss Wheat for her musical assistance, and to Mr Grimsley for the photos.

The afternoon was indeed a wonderful time of music where praise was rising to our incredible God.

If you would like more information about the Instrumental Music Program, please email instrumentalmusic@scc.wa.edu.au.

Year 9 Design Technology

Year 9 student Jarly successfully completed her wooden tool box in Term 2 for Design Technology.

Over the holidays Jarly took her toolbox home and created a beautiful dot painting to transform her toolbox into a unique, one off masterpiece. Isn’t it beautiful?

Well done Jarly!

~ Mr Hayden Scally, Design Technology Teacher

Year 8 Textiles

Last trimester the Year 8 students in Food Technology completed a brand new textile project. They learnt to crochet!

Here they are modeling their completed beanies. Love the colours!

Kindy Nature Playground

The long-awaited Nature Playground for the Kindergarten area was completed during the July School Holidays. It has been a source of great enjoyment for Kindy and Pre-Primary students since the first day of Term 3.

Fundraising began back in 2017 with the Bike-a-thon and also Family Fun Day which incorporated the Colour Fun Run. Both of these events were well attended and were great fun. The fundraising from the 2018 Bike-a-thon also went towards the Nature Playground.

A total of $14,620 was raised from these events and the College also applied for funding through the Local Schools Community Fund which was administered through the Office of our local Member of Parliament, the Hon. Melissa Price. We were successful with this grant application and received $15,000 from that fund, for which the College and community are very grateful.

A total of $41,000 has been expended on the project with $11,380 coming from the College 2020 Capital Works Programme.

The work was overseen by our Architectural Designer, Heike Witt, and work was carried out through Midwest Diverse Contracting under the direction of Ben Schramm. We also thank and acknowledge Think Water and Kennedy Landscaping for their assistance and the early design work carried out by Bernard Kaiser from Nature Play Environments back in 2018.

This has been a project well worth waiting for, and will be a long lasting learning and play environment for our younger students and also for the community.
