Student Support Counsellor

Part-time 0.4 FTE (2 days per week – equivalent)

Due to significant growth, Geraldton Christian College (formerly Strathalbyn Christian College) has an exciting opportunity for a Counsellor to join our team.   The successful candidate will join a vibrant community of educators and staff working together to honour God through excellence in education.

The Student Support Counsellor supports the ongoing development of psycho-social skills to promote social and emotional wellbeing. The Counsellor identifies, supports and refers for further treatment young people who struggle with mental health and related school/family issues.

This role includes supporting teaching staff in the management of these students.

Essential Selection Criteria

  • Experience providing support and guidance to young people.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop Action Plans for/with students in conjunction with parents.
  • Provide counselling support to parents relating to student issues and develop Action Plans to address social, emotional and behavioural issues.
  • Mediate between students in cases of relationship breakdown.
  • Mental Health First Aid qualification.
  • Committed Christian.
  • Current Working with Children Check Card.

Desirable

  • Qualified Psychologist, Social Worker or other suitable qualification

Casual Canteen Assistant

Wednesday & Friday, part-time

The Canteen Assistant helps the Canteen Manager with the day-to-day running of the Canteen (currently operating on Wednesday and Friday during school terms).

We are looking for a “people person” who will enjoy working with students and staff in a team environment. 

Must be willing to assist at school events where catering is provided (which could be outside of usual Canteen hours).

Essential Selection Criteria

  • Have current City of Greater Geraldton Health & Safety Training, or be willing to undergo training
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated high level of proficiency in customer service
  • Excellent maths/cash handling skills
  • Ability to take initiative and be able to work independently and efficiently
  • Ability to take direction and follow procedures
  • Physically fit to be able to undertake cleaning duties
  • Committed Christian
  • Current Working With Children Check Card

Desirable

  • Previous experience working within a food retail environment
  • Experience as a Barista, or willingness to learn how to make/serve espresso coffee

Relief Cleaners

The College is in need of staff who can fill in, as required, when regular staff are not available.  Training is provided before being placed on the relief contact list.

Relief Cleaners need to be available between the hours of 3.00pm and 6.00pm on school days (Monday to Friday), and due to Covid-19 there may also be hours available during school hours.
