Year 12 Ball Year 12 students all had a wonderful time dancing the night away last Saturday evening at their Ball. What an excellent way to finish their educational journey at the College. The Ball Committee, made up of parents of Year 12 students, did an outstanding job of decorating the College Hall — with an “Under the Sea” theme. It looked amazing! Mermaids made an appearance at the Ball, courtesy of All Things Dance. Remembrance Day Assembly We had a wonderful Remembrance Day Assembly at the College on Wednesday morning. Mr Gavin Hirschhausen, Principal, was MC for the occasion and spent time speaking to students about the origin of Remembrance Day: “At 5.00am on 11 November 1918, three German government representatives accepted the Armistice terms presented to them by an allied commander, General Foch of the French Army.  The demands of the Armistice included the withdrawal of German forces to the east bank of the Rhine within 30 days; immediate cessation of warfare; and surrender of the German fleet and all heavy guns with read more…

VETDSS Awards 2020 Congratulations to Yolonda Roe and Jayden Hardy who were both nominated for Awards at the Vocational Education and Training Delivered to Secondary Schools (VETDSS) Awards Night – Midwest & Gascoyne Regions, held at Central Regional TAFE in Geraldton last Thursday, 29 October. Yolonda was nominated for Aboriginal Vocational Education & Training Student of the Year and Certificate II Vocational Studies Student of the Year. Jayden was nominated for Higher Vocational Studies Student of the Year, and was announced the winner on the night. How cool that we have goats at school! Leah-May and Bregje took Arlo & Ali for a walk to eat weeds on the Mountain Bike Track. College endorsed for relationship-first focus Continuing efforts by Strathalbyn Christian College staff to build relationships with parents and guardians are paying off, with latest survey results showing big improvements in school community satisfaction. The number of respondents to the October 2020 survey jumped by more than 60 per cent compared to last year, with 102 people taking part. Year 12 Final Assembly Learning the art of forgiveness and building relationships in unprecedented times of stress. That is one of the great life lessons the 2020 Year 12 graduates will take as they leave the school, according to Principal Gavin Hirschhausen. Welcome back to the final Term of 2020 It’s been a busy first week back with Year 12 ATAR students sitting mock exams. The Year 12 Final Assembly will be held in the Amphitheatre next Thursday at 1.15pm, where family and friends will gather to celebrate the end of the students’ schooling life at the College. Friday they have a Retreat, then Graduation and Valedictory Dinner on Saturday. We are very pleased to welcome new staff member Mr Gavin Box as our new Administration Officer. End of Term What an amazingly busy term we have had. Time has certainly flown by and it’s hard to believe we are almost at the end of another year. Bike-a-thon and Mountain Bike Track Official Opening We have a busy day planned at the College tomorrow with the Bike-a-thon happening from 1.00-2.30pm, and the Mountain Bike Track Official Opening from 3.00-8.00pm. Information about both events has been emailed to parents/guardians today. We hope you will all come along and support these great community-building events. Primary Interschool Cross Country Last Friday 11 September, selected Primary students competed in the annual Interschool Cross Country Carnival. Worship Band On Friday Mornings, staff gather together for a time of worship at the start of the day. This morning Mr Gibson and the Worship Band led worship for us, which was so wonderful. How blessed we are to have a dedicated team of students who practice together every Thursday lunch time, and lead worship at Assemblies at school, etc. Next Sunday afternoon, 20 September, the Worship Band and Primary Sing Out Choir will be performing “The Blessing” at Songs of Praise at the Holy Cross Cathedral. ACC Athletics Carnival 4 September Well done Team Strath! You have made the whole community super proud with a sensational effort as Runners Up overall, by a close 53 point difference, at the Carnival. Commitment, hard work and contagious positive attitudes contributed to a very successful ACC. It was a positive start from the word go with only two athletes from the initial team withdrawing due to injury.
